Best Hearts of Iron IV Conversion Mods – Q1 2017

Boy, oh boy do I love me some Hearts of Iron IV. As an avid fan of the Axis & Allies board game back in the day, having a game like this was a godsend — or, perhaps, yet another crippling blow to productivity in endeavors beyond gaming.… Read more...

What is Divergent Game Design?

2016 seems to be the year of remakes and remasters. From old movies made new to spiritual successor video games that throwback to a bygone age, with all the new advances in technology over the past few decades, you can hardly blame media producers for wanting to revisit old concepts and see what they’d be like if they were made in the modern era.… Read more...

10 Skyrim Mods Worth Checking Out

10 Skyrim Mods Worth Checking Out

It isn't news that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of the best RPGs of recent years, redefining what it means to create a truly immersive sandbox experience. From the vastness of Tamriel's northern province, its forests and mountains, dungeons and caves, to the debut of the Radiance engine that allows NPCs to live their lives semi-autonomously and generate a virtually limitless amount of side quests from the consequences of their actions (i.e. the Jarl of the local hold needs to clear out bandits that have recently set up camp in an old ruin), this entry of The Elder Scrolls series was one to behold by series veterans and passionate RPG gamers alike.

Mod Review: Total War: Rome 2 – Radious Overhaul

I have to admit, I've had a bit of a love-hate relationship with Total War: Rome II. Though I've always been an avid fan of Creative Assembly and the Total War franchise, Rome II's lackluster release and empty promises had me worried. Despite my attempts to give it an honest shot, I've always found myself drifting back to Shogun 2 (namely, Fall of the Samurai, because who doesn't love guns and artillery?). Rome II did have one redeeming quality: Steam Workshop. Given the amount of overhauls that were popping up shortly after the game's release, I found that I wasn't alone in feeling that the game needed some beefing up.

Mod Review: Battlefield 2 – Project Reality

Mod Review: Battlefield 2 – Project Reality

I didn't think it was possible to risk developing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from a video game, but Project Reality truly lives up to its name, bringing to life the battlefields of the modern world. Originally a package of tweaks for Battlefield 2PR has grown into a complete overhaul of a game that's almost a decade old. It adds over a dozen conventional forces such as the United States Army and USMC, British, French, and Canadian Armed Forces, as well as militia groups such as Hamas and African Resistance Fighters (like those in Somalia) and even insurgencies like the Taliban. Pit these groups on maps that span around two square kilometers (to scale, mind you), and you have the makings of interesting engagements. After all, nothing gets the blood rushing like a good, old fashioned fire fight.

Mod Review: Mount & Blade: Warband – A Clash of Kings

Mod Review: Mount & Blade: Warband – A Clash of Kings

Mount & Blade: Warband  has been a game that redefined open-world RPGs since its release back in March 2010. Though admittedly the game might not have the visuals typical of other 2010 games, what it lacks in graphics it makes up for in design and flexibility. To make up for its visual weaknesses, Warband  has a relatively large modding community, letting players create new worlds and improve upon TaleWorlds' masterpiece. If there's one mod, however, that comes to mind, it'd have to be A Clash of Kings , a Game of Thrones -themed total conversion that breathes new life into game.
