‘Rocket League’ gets ‘Portal’-themed DLC today

Psyonix has teamed up with Valve to bring items from our favorite puzzle series Portal to be used as Rocket League decorations. This package gets even better with its price tag: absolutely free. Oh, and it’s released today.

The announcement was made late last week on the Rocket League news page:

“Yes, dear friends, in an amazing display of professional badassery, the fantastic folks at Valve Software have given Rocket League players one of the coolest things they’ll ever see in our game — officially-licensed Portal customization items that are absolutely FREE!”

These new items will be distributed just like any other customization item that Rocket League already has. After each match, win or lose, you can grab a new item to stick on your car to make it represent exactly who you are as a player.

The new Portal content will come in three different flavors: a topper, rocket trails, and antennae.

  • The topper–a cake–will prove to all other players that the cake is in fact real, and not a lie as previously advertised.
  • The new rocket trails can show off your favorite method of moving through Portal 2, employing the conversion gel, propulsion gel, or repulsion gel as you boost off to score the game winning goal.
  • The new antennae available are by far the most varied among the new content; your options are an Aperture Laboratories flag, a cake sticker, a companion cube, a personality core, and my personal favorite: PotatOS.

Let’s have a nice clean game ladies and gentlemen, and always remember, losing isn’t the end of the world (mainly because you can get items wither way). If you find yourself down near the end of a game, try to focus on the wise words of Cave Johnson:

“When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back. Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man that’s going to burn your house down! With the lemons!”
